Mangrove forests are threatened throughout tropical regions of the world. These special ecosystems provide coastal protection, store more than 3 times as much carbon dioxide as tropical upland forests, are home to more than 3,000 species of fish, are tourism hotspots, and provide economic opportunities worth over $800 billion per year.
