Goddard Glossary: Terminator

NASA Goddard ↗

From the creator

Let's step into the light and explore the terminator. It's the line between day and night. As the Artemis II crew flew over the Moon's terminator, they saw lunar craters and ridges cast dramatic shadows, the kind future explorers might see at the Moon's South Pole. The Artemis II Preliminary Science Report dropped last week, with hundreds of gigabytes of crew observations. From the rugged shadows at the edge of the terminator to a solar eclipse from the far side of the Moon, the science report is full of new details to explore. A line indicates the angle its poles are tilted at. One half is lit by sunlight, with the terminator running vertically in the video, and at an angle respective to Earth's poles. 00:27 Satellite imagery of Earth over several months. It tilts back and forth slightly, so the angle of the line between night and day shifts. 0:34 The woman talking. 0:37 The Moon progressing rapidly
