A life-sized blue whale sculpture now on display at San Francisco’s Crissy Field represents the 300,000 pounds of plastic that enters the oceans every 9 minutes. It took artists 18 weeks to hand-recycle 4,000 pounds of plastic and craft it into the cetacean. The artwork was commissioned by the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the National Parks Service, and the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy.
